Ōtākaro Land Trust
Ōtākaro
Land Trust is a chaitable trust that began in 1981. The trust aims to
support community development through co-operative housing. Ōtākaro is
the nearby river, commonly known as the Avon.
Co-operative Projects
The
trust runs the Neighbourhood Cohousing Fund that provides funding and
advice to set up new housing co-operatives from a group of neighbouring
houses.
Ōtākaro
runs Peteborough Housing Co-operative as a successful working example.
Peterborough provides an alternative ownership structure to the
tenant-landlord relationship, as the residents self-manage the
co-operative.
The
trust also makes small grants to local community groups each year.
These are for community development projects that enhance
social
and economic participation through encouraging self-sufficiency and
sustainability.
Membership
Ōtākaro Land Trust meets monthly at Peterborough
Co-operative. The trustees are
appointed at the Annual General Meeting, but members can join at
anytime.
The trust's membership is open
and welcomes new members.
